Helping iGEM students since 2016
In June 2020, I gave a lecture and feedback at the virtual iGEM (international competition on the Genetically Engineered Machine) Benelux Meetup, as my then role as member of the iGEM Human Practices committee, where I briefly volunteered from March to September 2020..
In 2016-2017, I worked as a Researcher at the Rathenau Instituut (Zoe Robaey tells about the iGEM'ers Guide to the Future) , in The Hague. In this position, I brought to completion the work of my colleagues in the SYNENERGENE project (https://www.synenergene.eu/) in creating a visual webbased tool to help young biotechnologists think about societal issues in their innovation. Our goal was to have the result of the research carried with groups of students over three years summarize in an accessible, easy-to-use and appealing tool (that you can find here).
Every year, since 2016, I help iGEM teams in some capacity, either as supervisor, or as expert, to reflect and act on the relevance for society of their innovation. 2020 was a difficult year for students with limited access to labs but also to participants in their research.
