On being Inclusive

I went back to my alma mater, the University of Ottawa in February 2020, to present concepts of inclusion from the ethics of technology an event called Inclusive Innovation: Perspectives and Practices at the Institute for Science, Society and Policy. I held a Power Talks on Inclusive Innovation Practices , where I laid out the goals of inclusion, such as economic justice and autonomy of farmers in complex technological endeavors such as second generation biofuels.

Attending a public event in Canada since the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Canada also meant that as a Canadian, I experienced for the first time, an elder opening the meeting happening on un-ceded Anishinabe Algonquin territory. As a speaker, this was really humbling and echoed the message I hope to pass: inclusive innovations should make everyone’s lives better off, not just a few.
